How to Prepare for Hot Tub Movers

If you're getting a spa installed or moved, here's a checklist of things to do to make sure the move goes smoothly:

  1. Inform the moving company about the size and weight of your spa so they know what to expect.
  2. Walk the route that the spa has to travel, and measure any gates, corners or narrow paths—including anything on the walls like gas meters, water meters or A/C units that could cause an obstruction.
  3. Let the movers know about any steps, slopes or obstacles so they can confirm the job is possible, and come prepared with the right equipment.
  4. Leave space for the moving truck. It's best to let any neighbors know well ahead of time so you don't find your path blocked when it's time to come through with the spa.

If you're installing a new spa:

  • Make sure your deck or patio is ready in advance. The site needs to be a completely flat surface which can hold several hundred pounds of weight, and with clear access to it.

If you're moving an existing spa:

  • Disconnect the power. This is an important step before you start moving or dismantling any part of your spa.
  • Drain the spa before moving day. This can take some time, so you want to make sure the spa is empty and ready to go when your movers show up.

Always make sure any hot tub movers you hire are licensed and insured. If they do not have insurance, you could be liable for any injuries or damage to your property during the move.
